How forex brokers can use influencer marketing strategies tailored to the unique trading cultures and platforms of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Southeast Asia is not a single market. A campaign strategy that works in Bangkok will not transfer directly to Ho Chi Minh City, and what resonates with Malaysian traders differs significantly from the priorities of Philippine retail investors. Successful SEA forex influencer marketing demands localisation at the country level.
The common thread across all five major SEA forex markets is mobile-first behaviour, high social media engagement, strong peer-to-peer recommendation culture, and rapidly growing retail trading participation. But the platforms, languages, influencer dynamics, and regulatory environments differ market by market.
Thailand has one of the most developed retail forex trading cultures in Southeast Asia. Facebook groups remain remarkably influential among Thai traders alongside YouTube and TikTok. Thai trading influencers typically build communities around specific strategies (scalping, swing trading, gold/XAUUSD) and command deep loyalty from followers.
Thai-language content is essential — English-only campaigns consistently underperform. XAUUSD (gold) trading is disproportionately popular in Thailand and a strong content angle for influencer partnerships. Line messaging platform integration for signals and updates is expected by Thai trading communities.
Vietnam's retail trading community has grown explosively. YouTube-first consumption of trading education is dominant, and Vietnamese trading channels regularly reach audiences of 300,000–2 million subscribers with strategy and broker review content. CPA models work well here, and Vietnamese influencers are sophisticated in negotiating partnership terms.
Facebook Groups serve a community-building function in Vietnam similar to Telegram in India. Significant trading communities (50,000–300,000 members) exist around popular Vietnamese trading educators, and sponsored posts within these communities convert well.
Indonesia is the largest economy in SEA and has a young, mobile-first population with high social media usage. Instagram and TikTok dominate for awareness, while YouTube converts. Bahasa Indonesia content is mandatory. Islamic finance considerations are relevant for a segment of Indonesian traders — halal trading accounts and swap-free options should be highlighted in influencer briefs.
Indonesian trading influencers often operate across both crypto and forex, reflecting the blended interest of the audience. Partnerships that speak to both asset classes can extend reach significantly.
Malaysia has a relatively sophisticated retail forex trading base with higher average deposits than other SEA markets. English is widely used alongside Bahasa Malaysia, which extends the potential influencer pool. Malaysia-based influencers with CFA or financial planning backgrounds command high credibility.
The Philippines presents a distinctive opportunity — Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) are a significant segment actively interested in forex trading as a supplementary income source. Filipino trading influencers often speak directly to this segment with content about income diversification and remote income. English-language content performs strongly in the Philippines, making this one of the more accessible SEA markets for internationally-produced content.
