How a Tier-1 Global Forex Broker Captured the Southeast Asian Market with Precision Influencer Targeting
A fast-growing global forex broker wanted to consolidate its position across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. Here's how a mid-tier influencer retainer programme, built around mobile-first content and localized compliance review, delivered 6,820 verified sign-ups at a 38% funding rate.
Client overview
The client is a fast-growing global forex broker with a strong presence in emerging markets, looking to consolidate its position in Southeast Asia — particularly Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. The SEA market is uniquely challenging: mobile-first audiences, diverse languages and cultures, high social penetration but low trust in foreign financial brands, and heavy competition from local and international brokers running aggressive promotions.
The challenge
With a moderate budget and a need for maximum impact in a short timeframe, expensive celebrity endorsements were ruled out in favor of authentic mid-tier financial creators. The brief called for content that felt organic rather than promotional, in a market where trust in foreign financial brands is low and competition for attention is intense.
Strategy
We deployed 10 carefully selected mid-tier influencers (50K–300K followers) across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, prioritizing creators with strong engagement rates over raw follower counts, on a 3-month retainer with 4 content pieces per creator per month in mobile-first formats (Instagram Reels, TikTok tutorials, YouTube Shorts). Content was localized by country: copy-trading tutorials for Indonesia, gold and oil analysis for Malaysia, crypto-forex crossover content for Thailand, and beginner education for the Philippines. Local cultural moments and market events were used to keep content timely, alongside a Telegram community strategy that gave each creator's audience a destination for ongoing engagement. All content was reviewed through the client's compliance pipeline with localized legal review per country.
Execution timeline
- Vetting and setup: Shortlisted 10 creators by audience geography, audience quality, content relevance and compliance risk; built campaign briefs with approved messaging and restricted claims.
- Weeks 1–4: Launched country-specific content streams; identified an audience-overlap issue between 2 Philippines creators and replaced one with a crypto-crossover creator, improving Philippines sign-ups by 85%.
- Month 2: Hired a dedicated Thai compliance reviewer after initial review turnaround ran longer than target, cutting turnaround from 72 hours to 36. Reallocated budget after discovering Malaysian audiences preferred longer-form educational content over TikTok.
- Ongoing: Monitored creator-level performance weekly and shifted budget toward the strongest-performing creators and content angles; grew the Telegram community to 14,500 members.
- Close-out: Extended 4 of the 10 influencers to 6-month retainer contracts based on performance.

“ForexInfluencer.com understood the SEA market better than any partner we've worked with. They didn't just find influencers — they built a complete ecosystem with Telegram communities and localized content that actually converted. The retainer model meant our creators truly became part of the brand family.”
